What Is Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate?
Sodium lauroyl glutamate, CAS 29923-31-7, is a mild amino-acid surfactant made from lauric acid and glutamic acid. It gives a fine, creamy foam and a soft skin feel, and is used in facial cleansers, sulfate-free shampoos, body washes, shaving products and toothpaste.
This aqueous grade has active matter 30 ± 2%, pH 7–8.5 on a 10% solution and colour ≤80 APHA. Its single C12 chain makes it different from sodium cocoyl glutamate, so the two are not interchangeable.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods. Mildness and sensitive-skin claims need finished-product testing. Cosmetic use levels and labelling follow the rules of the destination market.
