Benzophenone-3 (oxybenzone, BP-3), CAS 131-57-7, is a UV filter that absorbs UVB and short-wave UVA. It is used in sunscreens and cosmetics where permitted, and as a UV absorber that protects plastics and coatings from light damage.
The crystal grade has an assay of at least 99.0%, with limits on loss on drying, residue on ignition and heavy metals. Melting range and UV absorbance are also specified.
