What Is Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP)?
Sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), CAS 10124-56-8, EC 233-343-1, is a glassy sodium polyphosphate with a range of chain lengths. It binds calcium and magnesium, and is used in meat, seafood, dairy and beverages, and in water treatment and industrial dispersing.
The specification sets total phosphate as P2O5 ≥67.0%, inactive phosphate ≤7.5%, pH 5.8–7.2 and water-insoluble matter ≤0.02%, with arsenic, heavy-metal and fluorine limits.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods. Food use requires a grade and documents that meet the rules of the destination market.
