What Is Sodium Formaldehyde Bisulfite?
Sodium formaldehyde bisulfite (sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate), CAS 870-72-4, is the formaldehyde-bisulfite adduct. It is used as a reducing agent in textile and dye processing, a nickel-plating additive and a chemical intermediate. It is a different product from Rongalite (sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate).
Two grades are available: a colourless liquid with content ≥28% and a white powder with content ≥95%.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods.
