What Is Potassium Carbonate?
Potassium carbonate (K2CO3), CAS 584-08-7, EC 209-529-3, is an alkaline potassium salt. It is used as an alkali in noodles and cocoa processing, as a raising agent, and in glass, detergents and potassium chemicals. It is different from potassium bicarbonate.
The supply grade has purity ≥99.0%; typical density is about 2.43 g/mL at 25°C. Food, industrial and reagent grades have different requirements, so agree the grade before ordering.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods. It is alkaline and absorbs moisture, so keep bags sealed and use eye protection. Food use requires a grade and documents that meet the rules of the destination market.
