What Is Nickel Carbonate?
Nickel carbonate is supplied as light-green powder with nickel content ≥45.0%. The local technical file describes a commercial carbonate material containing nickel carbonate, nickel hydroxide and water of crystallisation. CAS 3333-67-3 identifies the carbonate component; the nickel-content specification must not be replaced with a claimed 95% pure-substance assay.
The specification limits chloride to 0.05%, copper to 0.1%, iron expressed as Fe2O3 to 0.1%, hydrochloric-acid insoluble matter to 0.2% and sulfate to 0.5%. The powder is insoluble in water and dissolves in dilute acid or ammonia solution according to the local technical file. Compare analytical results on the agreed test basis.
Industrial users evaluate the material as a nickel source for nickel-salt preparation, qualified plating-chemical manufacture and ceramic or pigment development. Acid processing releases gas and requires controlled addition, ventilation and compatible equipment. This is an industrial raw material rather than a finished plating bath.
Standard packing is 25 kg lined bags or drums. Prevent dust inhalation and skin exposure; nickel compounds present sensitisation and serious chronic-health hazards. The carbonate reference is UN 3077, Class 9, packing group III. Contain all releases and collect nickel-bearing process residues for authorised treatment.
