What Is Melamine Cyanurate (MCA)?
Melamine cyanurate is the 1:1 adduct of melamine and cyanuric acid, commonly abbreviated MCA. It is a halogen-free nitrogen-based flame-retardant additive for selected polymer formulations. It is distinct from melamine phosphate, pyrophosphate and polyphosphate grades.
The grade specifies assay ≥99.0%, moisture ≤0.20%, residual melamine ≤0.10%, median particle size D50 ≤5 µm and decomposition temperature ≥300°C. These limits replace older website grade values for this offer. Residual melamine and particle-size control are relevant to procurement and formulation assessment.
Unfilled and selected mineral-filled PA6 and PA66 compounds require evaluation of resin drying, dispersion, processing and the complete fire test at the intended part thickness. Performance in a glass-fibre-reinforced system cannot be assumed from an unfilled formulation.
Selected PBT, textile and coating systems require separate compatibility and durability trials. Assess mechanical properties, migration, colour and water exposure with the full binder and additive package. Avoid airborne powder and repeated exposure; non-dangerous-goods transport does not mean the material has no chemical health hazards.
