DMTDA is dimethylthiotoluenediamine, CAS 106264-79-3, a commercial aromatic diamine isomer mixture containing methylthio functionality. It is used as a curing and chain-extending ingredient in selected reactive polymer systems. It differs chemically and kinetically from DETDA.
Grade and quality checks
The TDS specifies assay ≥95%, Gardner colour ≤8, water ≤0.10%, amine value 525–535 mg KOH/g and toluenediamine ≤0.10%. Water and amine value should be compared on the stated analytical basis when developing moisture-sensitive polyurethane and epoxy formulations.
Application and process trials
Selected cast polyurethane elastomers, coatings and adhesives require evaluation of equivalent balance, mixing, pot life and cure profile. Determine conversion and the required modulus, tear and ageing properties in the complete resin system. Do not transfer a loading from a different diamine without formulation testing.
Application, handling and supply
Epoxy curing trials need separate evaluation of viscosity, gel time, cure temperature and finished performance. Keep closed containers protected from heat and air exposure, using the specified inert-storage procedure. Standard supply options include 250 kg drums, IBC and ISO tank; the matching liquid reference is Class 9, UN 3082.
