Standard lead time is approximately 14 days from order confirmation.
Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide Specifications
Values are typical for this grade. Sulfur chain length varies, so no single molecular formula applies. The flash point is an open-cup supply limit; the SDS gives closed-cup data. Transported as Class 9.
Commercial Information
Storage & Shipping
Storage Conditions
Store tightly closed in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area with secondary containment. Keep away from acids, strong oxidizers and unnecessary heat. Protect closures and prevent environmental releases.
Packaging Integrity
Check drum and IBC closures and use compatible dedicated transfer connections. Secure containers against movement, keep labels legible and prevent spills during bulk loading or discharge.
Packaging
210 kg net drums / 1,100 kg net IBC / 24 MT ISO tank
Handling & Protection
Use controlled liquid transfer and adequate local ventilation. Wear suitable gloves, goggles and protective clothing. Avoid skin contact and vapor or mist exposure; follow the process risk assessment for hot sulfiding operations.
What Is Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide?
Di-tert-butyl polysulfide (TBPS), CAS 68937-96-2, is an organosulfur liquid with a range of sulfur-chain lengths between tert-butyl groups. It decomposes at lower temperature than DMDS and has less odour, so it is used for sulfiding hydrotreating and hydrocracking catalysts and as an extreme-pressure additive in lubricants.
The TDS specifies sulfur ≥55%, ash ≤0.05%, solidifying point ≤−35°C and an open-cup flash point of at least 100°C. Typical viscosity is 10 cP at 20°C and relative density 1.09–1.18 at 20/4°C.
TBPS ships as UN 3082, Class 9, packing group III, and can cause skin sensitization. Switching from another sulfiding agent requires recalculating the feed rate from sulfur content.
As a TBPS supplier and exporter in China, ZXCHEM packs the dark brown or tan liquid in 210 kg drums, 1,100 kg IBCs or 24 MT ISO tanks.

Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide Applications
Catalyst sulfiding
Sulfur donor for hydrotreating and hydrocracking catalyst activation. Feed rate is set from sulfur content and unit procedure.
Lubricant EP additives
Extreme-pressure additive for gear oils, greases and metalworking lubricants. Copper corrosion and performance are tested.
Refinery and specialty processes
Sulfur source for coking control in furnaces and other processes. Decomposition behaviour is checked against conditions.

Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide FAQ
Which Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide grade should I choose?
The listed supply specification is Sulfur content ≥55%. Check the TDS for assay and impurity limits, then test a sample for compatibility and performance in your process.
Can I request a Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide sample for testing?
Yes. We can provide free samples for testing. Tell us the application, the grade you need and the tests you plan to run.
How is Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide packed and shipped?
Standard packing is 210 kg net drums / 1,100 kg net IBC / 24 MT ISO tank. The usual MOQ is 1,000 kg, with a lead time of approximately 14 days from order confirmation. The stated bulk transport classification is Class 9 — Environmentally hazardous.
Which documents are available for Di-tert-butyl Polysulfide?
The TDS lists the supply specification and the SDS covers safety and transport; both can be downloaded on this page. Each shipment comes with a batch COA.
