Carnosic acid is a phenolic diterpene associated with rosemary. Available HPLC grades span 5–98%, with powder, liquid and crystalline forms depending on the selected specification. Its chemical identity is CAS 3650-09-7.
Lower-assay rosemary fractions and highly purified carnosic acid serve different formulation needs. The selected concentration and physical form influence dosing, color and incorporation into oil-containing systems. Carnosic acid is also distinct from carnosol and rosmarinic acid, so these rosemary constituents should be evaluated separately.
