PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION

4-tert-Butylcatechol (TBC) at a Glance

4-tert-Butylcatechol (TBC, CAS 98-29-3) is a polymerization inhibitor and antioxidant for styrene, butadiene, resins and specialty industrial systems. ZXCHEM offers 99% solid flakes and 85% solution grades. Solid material is packed in 25 kg drums and solution in 1,100 kg IBC. The TDS compares the two grades; the downloadable reference SDS states the solid and aqueous reference scopes and the importance of matching the solution solvent. Choose ZXCHEM as your 4-tert-butylcatechol (tbc) supplier in China for bulk enquiries and technical document support.

Storage & Shipping

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry, ventilated corrosives area. Protect solid TBC from moisture and unnecessary air exposure. Keep solution grades away from heat and ignition; separate from oxidizers, alkalis and incompatible metals.

Packaging Integrity

Inspect solid-grade drum liners and solution IBC closures before use. Keep each grade and solvent clearly identified, avoid cross-contamination and preserve package seals during storage and transport.

Packaging

99% solid: 25 kg drums / 85% solution: 1,100 kg IBC

Handling & Protection

Use controlled dispensing and effective ventilation. Avoid solid dust, solution mist and splashes. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, splash goggles and face protection. Apply solvent-specific ignition controls for methanol-containing grades.

What Is 4-tert-Butylcatechol (TBC)?

4-tert-Butylcatechol is a substituted catechol with formula C10H14O2 and molecular weight 166.22 g/mol. It is also called 4-tert-butylpyrocatechol. The commercial forms differ: 99% grade is white to yellowish solid flakes, while 85% grade is a light yellow to amber solution.

TBC is used to limit unwanted polymerization in selected styrene, butadiene and other monomer systems. Inhibitor performance depends on the monomer, temperature, concentration and process conditions. Establish the operating procedure with the complete monomer handling system; a product listing is not an emergency stabilization procedure.

The legacy ZXCHEM grade table lists solid purity >99% and solution purity >85%, with separate density and solution refractive-index information. It identifies water or methanol as solution solvents. These solvent choices are distinct formulations and must not be treated as interchangeable safety grades.

The reference SDS covers solid TBC and an identified 85% aqueous manufacturer reference. Solid reference transport is UN 3261, Class 8, packing group II; the aqueous reference identifies UN 3265. Methanol-containing solution requires its own matching formulation safety information, because solvent hazards and subsidiary transport risks differ.

FORMULATION

4-tert-Butylcatechol (TBC) Applications

Styrene and vinyl monomer inhibition

Inhibitor ingredient for selected reactive monomer storage and processing systems. Establish concentration, oxygen and temperature controls under the monomer supplier’s operating procedure.

Butadiene and petrochemical processing

Polymerization-control ingredient for appropriate butadiene and petrochemical systems. Validate inhibitor compatibility and process conditions before setting treatment levels.

Resin and specialty formulation stabilization

Antioxidant or inhibitor for selected resin, ink, oil and polymer formulations. Compare solid and solution handling needs and evaluate stability in the full system.
