What Is 1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic Acid (HEDP)?
HEDP (1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid, also called etidronic acid), CAS 2809-21-4, is a phosphonate chelating agent and threshold scale inhibitor. It is widely used in cooling-water, boiler-water and oilfield water treatment, and in cleaning and peroxide-stabilizing formulations.
The liquid grade contains at least 60% HEDP, with density ≥1.40 g/cm³ at 20°C. The solid grade is at least 90% on an acid basis, which corresponds to at least 98% on a monohydrate basis; the two figures describe the same material on different bases.
Formulations are designed around calcium hardness, alkalinity, temperature, metal content and compatibility with other phosphonates, polymers or zinc salts. Both forms are Class 8 corrosive but have different UN numbers; the SDS covers each form separately.

Which HEDP grade should I choose?
Choose 60% liquid when aqueous dosing is convenient, or solid when dry handling is preferred. The solid specification states ≥90% HEDP acid basis and ≥98% HEDP·H2O basis; use the correct basis when comparing quotations.

How is HEDP packed and shipped?
