What Is Tris(2,3-dibromopropyl) Isocyanurate (TBC)?
Tris(dibromopropyl) Isocyanurate for Flame-Retardant Formulations
Tris(2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate is a brominated heterocyclic additive, commonly abbreviated TBC. Here TBC means CAS 52434-90-9; it does not refer to tert-butylcatechol, which is a different chemical. The isocyanurate structure carries three dibromopropyl groups.
The 2026 grade has assay ≥98.0%, bromine ≥63.0%, melting range 105–115°C and volatile matter ≤0.30%. These current supply limits are used for purchasing and incoming inspection. They should not be combined with a different grade specification without identifying the selected grade.
Polyolefin, styrenic and elastomer development should compare the complete additive package, dispersion and thermal stability during processing. Determine loading through trials and measure the required fire performance together with colour, flow and mechanical-property retention.
Use enclosed feeding or local extraction for this irritant powder. The matched solid reference is not regulated as dangerous goods under ADR, IMDG and IATA; this transport status does not remove the need for chemical hazard labels, protective equipment and appropriate waste management.
