What Is Alkyl-Silicon-Treated Titanium Dioxide?
Alkyl-silicon-treated titanium dioxide is a white cosmetic pigment (TiO2, CAS 13463-67-7) coated with triethoxycaprylylsilane. The hydrophobic coating helps it disperse in oils and waxes and resist water, which suits foundations, BB creams, pressed powders and other colour cosmetics.
The TDS specifies 325-mesh passing ≥99.5%, relative tinting strength 95–105% and colour difference ΔE ≤1.0, with limits on lead, arsenic, mercury and microbes. The sieve result is not a particle-size or non-nano declaration.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods, but titanium dioxide dust is classified as a suspected carcinogen by inhalation, so control respirable dust. Shelf life is 24 months unopened. Finished-product SPF and water-resistance claims need their own testing.
