What Is Sodium Sulfite Anhydrous?
Anhydrous sodium sulfite (Na2SO3), CAS 7757-83-7, is a water-soluble reducing salt. In water treatment it removes dissolved oxygen from boiler feedwater and neutralizes residual chlorine; it is also used in textile processing and photographic developers.
Two grades are available, 97% and 98%. They differ in alkalinity and trace-metal limits, so the specification table lists them separately. The photographic grade has additional limits on chloride, sulfate and insoluble matter.
Keep the bags sealed and dry, because long exposure to air oxidizes sulfite to sulfate and lowers the assay. It ships as non-dangerous goods.

Sodium Sulfite Anhydrous Applications
Boiler-water oxygen scavenging
Removes dissolved oxygen from boiler feedwater to limit corrosion. The dose follows the oxygen content of the feedwater, and residual sulfite is monitored in the boiler water.
Textile processing
Reducing agent in textile bleaching and dyeing steps. Bath pH and sulfite levels in the effluent are controlled as part of the process.
Photographic developers
Preservative in photographic developer solutions. The photographic grade meets the tighter chloride, sulfate and insoluble-matter limits these baths require.
