What Is Sodium Nitrite?
Sodium nitrite (NaNO2), CAS 7632-00-0, is an inorganic nitrite. It is used for diazotization in dye and pigment manufacture, as a corrosion inhibitor in cooling water and metalworking, in heat-transfer salts and in rubber chemicals.
The supply grade has assay ≥99.0% on a dry basis, with limits on chloride, insolubles, nitrate and moisture.
It ships as UN 1500, Class 5.1 with subsidiary Class 6.1, packing group III. It is an oxidizer and toxic if swallowed. Keep it away from acids, ammonium salts, reducing agents and combustibles.
