Storage Conditions
Keep sealed in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from heat, ignition sources, moisture, acids and oxidizers. Maintain air gaps between stacks; keep bulk quantities above 450 kg below 40°C, as specified in the selected reference SDS.

What Is Potassium Amyl Xanthate (PAX)?
Potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) is the potassium salt of amyl xanthic acid, identified by CAS 2720-73-2, formula C6H11KOS2 and molecular weight 202.38 g/mol. With the longest alkyl chain among common xanthates, it is the strongest collector of the group and is used where recovery comes before selectivity.
Typical feeds are copper-nickel sulfide ores, gold-bearing pyrite and oxidized or tarnished sulfides. Copper and zinc oxide ores can be floated with PAX after sulfidization. The supply specification sets xanthate purity at ≥90.0%, free alkali at ≤0.2% and moisture plus volatile matter at ≤4.0%. Dosage and addition point depend on the ore, liberation, pulp pH and the rest of the reagent scheme, so plants usually set them through bench tests and plant trials.
Bulk PAX ships as UN 3342, Xanthates, Class 4.2, packing group III. Keep it dry and cool, away from acids and oxidizers, and avoid self-heating in large stacks. Prepared solutions decompose over time, so make them up in a ventilated system and use them promptly.

Used after sulfidization of copper or zinc oxide minerals with NaHS or Na2S. Sulfidizer addition and conditioning time are controlled before PAX is added.
