What Is Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC)?
Polyaluminium chloride (PAC), CAS 1327-41-9, is a pre-hydrolysed aluminium coagulant. It neutralizes the charge on suspended particles and forms flocs quickly, and it works over a wider pH range with less alkalinity consumption than aluminium sulfate.
PAC is available as a liquid with at least 10% Al2O3 and as a powder with at least 28% or 30% Al2O3. Compare basicity, pH, water-insoluble matter and trace metals together, not only the Al2O3 content.
Dose, mixing and settling conditions are set by jar tests on the actual water. This grade is for industrial water and wastewater; drinking-water use needs a certified grade and local approval. PAC is not regulated as dangerous goods, but the powder can cause serious eye damage and the liquid irritates skin and eyes.

Wastewater treatment
Coagulant for clarification and solid-liquid separation of industrial wastewater, often used with a polyacrylamide flocculant. pH, alkalinity and sludge volume are checked.
Papermaking
Coagulation and retention aid in paper machine water circuits. Compatibility with the furnish and retention aids is confirmed before use.
