What Is Nickel(II) Acetate Tetrahydrate?
Nickel(II) acetate tetrahydrate, Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O, CAS 6018-89-9, molecular weight 248.84 g/mol, is the hydrated acetate salt of nickel. The four waters of crystallization must be included when calculating nickel content or reaction charge.
The green crystalline powder has purity ≥99.0%, with cobalt ≤0.0500%, iron ≤0.0050%, zinc ≤0.0200% and copper ≤0.0100%, plus limits on water-insoluble matter, sulfate and chloride.
It is used for catalyst and precursor preparation, electroplating and metal colouring, and synthesis of nickel oxide and hydroxide. It ships as UN 3077, Class 9, packing group III; nickel salts can also cause sensitization, so workplace exposure controls apply.
