What Is Natural Lutein?
Natural lutein (CAS 127-40-2) is a yellow-orange carotenoid extracted from marigold flowers, then saponified and purified. It is supplied as powders and oil dispersions from 5% to 90% lutein, and is used as a colour and lutein source in food, nutritional and personal-care products where permitted.
The TDS gives lutein content by HPLC for each grade and loss on drying ≤5% for powders, with limits on lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, total heavy metals and microbes. Formula and molecular weight refer to lutein itself, not the carrier.
Lutein oxidizes in air, heat and light, so store it sealed, cool and dark. It is not regulated as dangerous goods. Food and beverage use requires a grade permitted in the destination market. No health claim is made.
