Dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether, commonly called DPM or glycol ether DPM, is a P-series glycol ether identified by CAS 34590-94-8. The commercial isomer mixture has formula C7H16O3 and molecular weight 148.20 g/mol. It is a colourless clear liquid with a mild ether-like odour.
The TDS specifies content ≥99.0%, acidity calculated as acetic acid ≤0.01%, water ≤0.10%, density 0.948–0.958 g/cm3 at 20°C and colour ≤10 Pt-Co. Water miscibility and moderate volatility support evaluation as a solvent and coupling ingredient; the full formulation controls the final performance.
Coating manufacturers assess DPM in water-based paint and coalescent systems. Cleaning formulators evaluate its coupling and solvency in technically designed cleaners and degreasers, while ink developers use it in selected solvent-based screen-printing systems. Validate drying, substrate compatibility, clarity and residue through application trials.
