What Is Bacteriological Peptone?
Bacteriological peptone, CAS 73049-73-7, is a soluble protein hydrolysate that supplies peptides, amino acids and organic nitrogen for microbial growth. It is used in culture media for bacteria and fungi, in industrial fermentation, and in vaccine and enzyme production.
The specification sets total nitrogen ≥14.5% and amino nitrogen ≥2.5%, pH 5.0–7.0, with limits on ash and moisture. It dissolves completely in water.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods. Keep bags sealed, as the powder absorbs moisture. Pharmaceutical and diagnostic uses need a grade qualified for that purpose.
