What Is Sodium Metasilicate Pentahydrate?
Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, CAS 10213-79-3, is a strongly alkaline silicate. It saponifies and emulsifies oils, buffers pH and inhibits corrosion, which makes it a builder in metal cleaners, laundry and dishwashing detergents and textile scouring.
The granular technical grade controls sodium oxide, silica, insolubles, iron and particle size.
It ships as UN 3253, Class 8, packing group III. Its solution is strongly alkaline and causes serious burns, so use eye and skin protection.
