What Is Phosphorous Acid?
Phosphorous acid (H3PO3), CAS 13598-36-2, is a phosphorus acid different from phosphoric acid. It is the raw material for phosphite salts, phosphonates such as ATMP and HEDP, and PVC stabilizers.
The crystal grade has assay ≥98.0%, with limits on phosphate, chloride, sulfate, iron and lead.
It ships as UN 2834, Class 8, packing group III. It is corrosive and releases toxic phosphine gas when strongly heated. Fertilizer or crop-protection products made from it need their own registration.
