What Is Isopropylated Triphenyl Phosphate (IPPP)?
Isopropylated triphenyl phosphate, IPPP, CAS 68937-41-7, is a liquid triaryl phosphate ester used as a flame-retardant plasticizer. It is also known as isopropylated phenol phosphate. Commercial IPPP contains a distribution of related phosphate esters and is not represented completely by one molecular formula or molecular weight.
The TDS specifies phosphorus ≥8.1%, viscosity 64–75 mPa·s at 25°C, specific gravity 1.15–1.19 at 20/20°C, acid value ≤0.20 mg KOH/g, water ≤0.20% and free phenol ≤0.10%. Flash point is ≥220°C by open cup; compare flash-point results only on the same method basis.
Flexible PVC cable, flooring and textile-coating development can use IPPP to balance plasticization and flame performance. Flexible polyurethane, phenolic resin and selected engineering-polymer systems require separate compatibility and process trials. Evaluate migration, volatility, cure response, mechanical retention and the complete formulation fire test.
An additive specification does not establish a finished-material flame rating. Select the phosphate grade and additive package for the actual substrate and destination market.
