Identity and supplied form
1,4-Butanediol dimethacrylate, BDDMA, CAS 2082-81-7, has two methacrylate groups linked by a four-carbon chain. It is a difunctional crosslinking monomer for selected acrylic and reactive polymer systems. It differs from 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether, which uses epoxy functionality.
Grade and quality checks
The TDS specifies purity ≥90%, acid value ≤0.10% on the stated TDS basis, water ≤0.10%, colour ≤100 APHA and inhibitor 100±10 ppm. Retain the stabilizer condition and compare these limits separately from higher-purity grades with different inhibitor quantities.
Application and process trials
Selected acrylic emulsion polymers, elastomers and reactive resins require trials of crosslink density, conversion, viscosity and mechanical-property retention. Reactive thinner and UV-curing development should establish the curing system and verify the finished material rather than assuming a universal cure response.
Application, handling and supply
Adhesive, wire and cable coating development requires separate assessment of compatibility, cure profile and ageing. Standard packing is 200 kg plastic drums; the TDS lists 16 MT per 20-foot FCL. Keep cool in the original inhibited condition; the matching reference is non-dangerous goods for transport.
