Storage & Shipping

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed under the specified nitrogen blanket, above 0°C, in a dry, ventilated area. Protect from air, moisture, sunlight and heat; separate from reactive incompatible materials.

Packaging Integrity

Inspect drum closures, IBC valves and restraints before unloading. Prevent leaks and moisture entry, keep dedicated transfer equipment clean and retain batch identification.

Packaging

200 kg drums / 1,000 kg IBC

Handling & Protection

Use controlled closed liquid transfer and effective ventilation. Prevent skin contact and mist exposure; wear compatible gloves, goggles and protective clothing. Keep isocyanates out of storage and transfer equipment.

What Is Diethyltoluenediamine (DETDA)?

DETDA is diethyltoluenediamine, CAS 68479-98-1, a commercial aromatic diamine isomer mixture. Selected polyurethane and polyurea systems use it as a chain extender, and selected epoxy systems use its amine functionality in curing. It differs from methylthio-substituted DMTDA.

The TDS specifies total diamine ≥98%, 2,4-isomer 75–82%, 2,6-isomer 17–24% and water ≤0.15%. The isomer ranges are supply limits and should be compared with the measured batch composition and equivalent requirement. Colour may darken with time and exposure to air.

For RIM polyurethane and cast elastomer development, evaluate mixing efficiency, reaction speed, equivalent balance and finished hardness, tear and ageing properties. Spray polyurea systems require specific assessment of equipment, working conditions and the complete component balance.

Epoxy curing trials should separately assess viscosity, gel time, cure schedule and finished thermal performance. Keep sealed under the specified nitrogen blanket, above 0°C and protected from air, moisture, sunlight and heat. Standard packing is 200 kg drums or 1,000 kg IBC; the matched reference identifies Class 9, UN 3082.

FORMULATION

Diethyltoluenediamine (DETDA) Applications

Polyurethane chain extension

Aromatic diamine for selected cast and RIM polyurethane systems. Evaluate equivalent ratio, mixing, reaction profile and aged mechanical performance.

Spray polyurea systems

Reactive chain-extending component for selected polyurea formulations. Assess equipment conditions, cure speed and final system properties.

Epoxy resin curing

Amine curing ingredient for selected epoxy systems. Test viscosity, gel time, conversion and finished thermal behaviour.
