What Is Bactericide GXL?
Bactericide GXL is a 20% solution of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT), CAS 2634-33-5. BIT is a stable in-can preservative that works over a wide pH range and at elevated temperature, used in water-based paints, adhesives, polymer emulsions and mineral slurries.
The supply grade contains 19.0–21.5% BIT, as a colourless to light yellowish liquid. Formula and molecular weight refer to BIT itself.
It ships as Class 8 corrosive. BIT is a skin sensitizer, so use gloves and eye protection. Finished biocidal products need authorization in the destination market.
