EDDM Specifications
Specifications apply to the stated commercial grade. Total formaldehyde is distinct from free formaldehyde; see the SDS for composition. Batch-specific measured results are reported separately in the COA. HS 2909.49 is an indicative six-digit reference, subject to commercial form and destination classification.

What Is EDDM?
EDDM (ethylenedioxy dimethanol, also called ethylene glycol bis(semiformal)), CAS 3586-55-8, is a formaldehyde-releasing preservative for water-based industrial products. It is used for in-can preservation of coatings, adhesives and polymer dispersions and to keep metalworking fluids and process water free of bacterial growth.
The commercial grade has active content ≥95.0% and total formaldehyde ≥45.0%. Total formaldehyde is an analytical content figure and is different from free formaldehyde, which is given in the SDS.
Add EDDM near the end of production, preferably below 40°C, and mix well. Typical starting levels are 0.1–0.3% for in-can preservation and 0.3–0.5% for working-fluid maintenance; the final dose is confirmed by preservation testing. It is not recommended for protein-containing products.
EDDM is not regulated as dangerous goods for transport, but it can cause serious eye damage and sensitization and carries a carcinogenicity warning. Finished biocidal products need authorization in the destination market. As an EDDM supplier and exporter in China, ZXCHEM packs the colourless to light yellow liquid in 25 kg plastic drums, 200 kg drums or 1,000 kg IBCs.

EDDM Applications
Metalworking fluids
Preservative for water-based metalworking fluids and oil emulsions, typically starting at 0.1–0.3%. The dose is confirmed in the working system.
Coatings and dispersions
In-can preservative for water-based paints, latex, polymer dispersions and pigment slurries. Addition level is set by preservation testing.
Adhesives and thickeners
Preservative for starch, dextrin and cellulose-based glues and thickener concentrates. Not suited to protein-based adhesives.
Industrial aqueous systems
Microbial control in paper-pulp slurries, process water and detergents where this biocide use is permitted.

EDDM FAQ
Which EDDM grade is available from ZXCHEM?
The listed liquid grade has active content ≥95.0% and total formaldehyde ≥45.0%. Tell us your formulation, required quantity and destination so we can review the specification and intended industrial use with you.
How should EDDM be added to a formulation?
Add it toward the end of production, preferably below 40°C, and mix thoroughly. General starting guidance is 0.1–0.3% for in-can preservation and 0.3–0.5% for working-fluid maintenance; confirm the dose by formulation testing. It is not recommended for protein-containing formulations.
What EDDM packaging and sample options are available?
The documented options are 25 kg plastic drums, 200 kg drums and 1,000 kg IBCs. Contact ZXCHEM for a free testing sample and a quotation; include the required grade, quantity and delivery destination.
Which EDDM documents can I obtain?
Download the TDS and complete 16-section SDS from this page. A batch-specific COA is available for quality review. The SDS includes serious eye-damage, sensitisation and carcinogenicity warnings; biocidal use must meet the requirements of the destination market.
