What Is Ethyl Oleate?
Ethyl oleate, CAS 111-62-6, is the ethyl ester of oleic acid. Also called oleic acid ethyl ester, it has formula C20H38O2 and molecular weight 310.51 g/mol. The colourless to pale-yellow liquid is used as a solvent, carrier and emollient-type ingredient in qualified formulations.
The TDS specifies relative density 0.866–0.874 at 20°C, refractive index 1.443–1.450 at 25°C and acid value ≤0.5 mg KOH/g. Iodine, peroxide and saponification values are also controlled. The technical listing does not assign an unsupported assay guarantee or pharmaceutical certification.
Formulators evaluate ethyl oleate in cosmetic oil-based systems, fragrance carriers and specialty industrial ester applications. It is practically insoluble in water and compatible with selected organic solvents. Test solvency, viscosity, oxidation stability and compatibility in the full formulation; pharmaceutical-carrier use requires a separately qualified grade and application review.
