What Is Sorbitol Solution?
Sorbitol solution (70%), CAS 50-70-4, is a sugar alcohol syrup used as a humectant, sweetener and bulking agent in sugar-free confectionery, toothpaste, baked goods and cosmetics. It keeps products moist and does not crystallize easily.
The grade has at least 70% dry substance, of which D-sorbitol is 71–83%; this is not the same as 70% pure sorbitol. D-mannitol and reducing-sugar limits describe the polyol profile, and density and refractive index are measured at 20°C.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods. Food use requires a grade and documents that meet the rules of the destination market.
