What Is Propylene Glycol Alginate (PGA)?
Propylene glycol alginate (PGA), CAS 9005-37-2, is an ester of seaweed alginic acid. Unlike sodium alginate it stays stable in acid, so it is used to stabilize beer foam, thicken salad dressings and stabilize acidic dairy drinks and juices.
The specification sets esterification ≥82.0%, moisture ≤14.0% and pH 3.0–5.0. 1% solution viscosity and particle size are selected for the application.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods. Food use requires a grade and documents that meet the rules of the destination market.
