What Is Tetramethylthiuram Monosulfide (TMTM)?

Tetramethylthiuram monosulfide, TMTM, CAS 97-74-5, is a thiuram-family rubber accelerator. It is also known as bis(dimethylthiocarbamyl) sulfide. The monosulfide is chemically different from tetramethylthiuram disulfide, TMTD; compare the cure chemistry rather than treating them as interchangeable.

The TDS specifies initial melting point ≥105°C, heating loss ≤0.30%, ash ≤0.30%, residue on a 150 µm sieve ≤0.10% and residue on a 63 µm sieve ≤0.50%. The initial melting point is a temperature, correcting the percentage unit on the old web table.

Selected natural and synthetic rubber formulations use TMTM within a tested accelerator package. Evaluate scorch safety, cure speed, crosslink development and interactions with sulfur and activators. Rheometer and finished-compound testing establish the suitable loading for the actual process.

Rubber goods require assessment of dispersion, cure uniformity, ageing and service properties. Review nitrosamine-related requirements where relevant to the end use. Prevent skin contact, dust and environmental release; the matching solid reference identifies Class 9, UN 3077.
