Sodium isobutyl xanthate (SIBX) is a xanthate collector identified by CAS 25306-75-6, EC 246-805-2, formula C5H9NaOS2 and molecular weight 172.24 g/mol. Its branched four-carbon chain collects more strongly than SEX or SIPX while keeping reasonable selectivity, which makes it a common choice for copper, lead-zinc and gold-bearing sulfide ores.
The supply specification sets xanthate purity at ≥90.0%, free alkali at ≤0.2% and moisture plus volatile matter at ≤4.0%. The powder or pellets dissolve in water for dosing. Dosage and addition point depend on the ore, liberation, pulp pH and the rest of the reagent scheme, so plants usually set them through bench tests and plant trials.

Collector for chalcopyrite and associated gold in copper concentrators. It is stronger than SIPX, which helps recover coarser or partly liberated copper sulfides.
Lead-zinc and polymetallic circuits
Used for galena and activated sphalerite in polymetallic plants. Depressant choice at each stage controls the separation between lead, zinc and iron sulfides.
Gold-bearing pyrite
Floats gold-bearing pyrite and arsenopyrite ahead of cyanidation or roasting. Often dosed at rougher and scavenger stages to raise overall sulfide recovery.
