What Is o-Phthalaldehyde (OPA)?
o-Phthalaldehyde (OPA), CAS 643-79-8, is an aromatic dialdehyde. It is the active ingredient in high-level disinfectant solutions for heat-sensitive instruments, a derivatization reagent for amino acid analysis by fluorescence, and an intermediate for specialty chemicals.
The supply grade has GC purity ≥98.0%, as yellowish crystals or crystalline powder.
OPA ships as Class 8 with subsidiary Class 6.1. It is corrosive, toxic and a skin sensitizer, so use dust control and full skin and eye protection. Finished disinfectant products need their own approval.
