What Is Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (IPBC)?
IPBC (iodopropynyl butylcarbamate), CAS 55406-53-6, is a carbamate fungicide. At low levels it prevents mould and mildew on paint films, wood and other materials, and it is used as a preservative in coatings, wood protection products and permitted personal-care formulations.
The supply grade has HPLC purity ≥99.0%, as white or off-white crystals or crystalline powder. IPBC is often combined with a bactericide such as BIT because on its own it acts mainly against fungi.
IPBC is toxic and ships as Class 6.1. Personal-care use levels are restricted in many markets. Finished biocidal products need authorization in the destination market.
