What Is Hydroxypropyl Guar Gum?
Hydroxypropyl guar gum (HPG), CAS 39421-75-5, is a nonionic modified guar polysaccharide. Hydroxypropyl substitution lowers the insoluble residue compared with native guar, which makes HPG a standard gelling agent for crosslinked fracturing fluids and a thickener for industrial aqueous systems.
Two powder grades are available, differing in viscosity, fine-particle content and water-insoluble matter. Grade I viscosity is measured on a 0.6% solution at 30°C and 170 s−1; the Grade II viscosity method is agreed at order. Compare results only under the same test conditions.
HPG is not regulated as dangerous goods. Store the bags dry, as moisture causes lumping and affects hydration.

Thickener for industrial aqueous formulations. The grade is selected on viscosity and insoluble-matter limits.
