What Is Sorbic Acid?
Sorbic acid, CAS 110-44-1, is a preservative that inhibits moulds and yeasts. It is used in cheese, baked goods, beverages, sauces and other foods, and in feed and cosmetics, and works best below about pH 6.5.
The grade has assay 99.0–101.0%, with limits on water, residue on ignition and trace elements. Sorbic acid has low water solubility; potassium sorbate is the more soluble salt form and is listed separately.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods under ADR, IMDG or IATA. Food use requires a grade and documents that meet the rules of the destination market.
