What Is m-Toluic Acid?
m-Toluic acid (3-methylbenzoic acid), CAS 99-04-7, C8H8O2, is an aromatic carboxylic acid. It is the raw material for the insect repellent DEET and an intermediate for other fine chemicals.
Two grades are available, ≥99.0% and ≥99.5%. Both have water ≤0.2% and o- plus p-toluic acid ≤0.5%; benzoic acid is ≤0.5% and ≤0.3% respectively.
It is not regulated as dangerous goods.
