What Is n-Octadecyltriethoxysilane?
n-Octadecyltriethoxysilane (triethoxysilyloctadecane), CAS 7399-00-0, EC 230-995-9, is a long-chain alkyl silane. It bonds to hydroxyl groups on mineral surfaces and makes them water-repellent and oil-dispersible, so it is used to treat cosmetic pigments, mineral fillers, silica and titanium dioxide.
The supply grade has purity ≥95%, refractive index nD25 1.4340–1.4400, density about 0.87 g/mL at 25°C and a melting range of 10–12°C, so it may look cloudy or solid in cold weather.
It is moisture-sensitive and releases ethanol on hydrolysis; keep drums sealed. It is not regulated as dangerous goods.
