What Is Inhibitor 701 (4-Hydroxy-TEMPO)?
Inhibitor 701 is 4-hydroxy-TEMPO, also called TEMPOL, a stable nitroxyl-radical material identified by CAS 2226-96-2. It is used in selected polymerization-control applications. The hydroxyl-substituted material differs from unsubstituted TEMPO and from amine antioxidants.
The supply grade has assay ≥99%, melting range 69–72°C, water ≤0.50% and ash ≤0.10%. Its specified ethanol solution is clear. These tests support incoming inspection and comparison of solid inhibitor grades; they do not establish an effective inhibitor loading for every monomer.
For selected acrylate, methacrylate and related reactive-monomer systems, evaluate inhibitor concentration against temperature, residence time, contaminants and the intended subsequent polymerization. Use a process-specific inhibition study and a suitable monitoring plan. Do not treat an inhibitor addition as a substitute for thermal or process safeguards.
Store sealed, protected from light and incompatible contamination; the quality-storage reference is 2–8°C. Use powder handling controls and eye protection during powder transfers.
