Storage Conditions
Keep sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated segregated area away from acids, strong oxidizers, moisture and ignition sources. Maintain air gaps between pallets and protect packages from direct sunlight.

Handling & Protection
Control dust using suitable local extraction. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, eye and face protection. Keep acid contamination out of the process; prevent uncontrolled release and consult the SDS before handling. Avoid ignition and static discharge. Moisture and acidic conditions can produce flammable carbon disulfide; prepare solutions only in controlled, ventilated process equipment.
What Is Sodium Ethyl Xanthate (SEX)?
Sodium ethyl xanthate (SEX) is the shortest-chain xanthate collector in common use, identified by CAS 140-90-9, EC 205-440-9, formula C3H5NaOS2 and molecular weight 144.19 g/mol. Its ethyl group gives weaker collecting power than propyl, butyl or amyl xanthates but better selectivity, so it is usually chosen for sulfides that float readily.
The supply specification sets xanthate purity at ≥90.0%, free alkali at ≤0.2% and moisture plus volatile matter at ≤4.0%. The powder or pellets dissolve in water for dosing. Dosage and addition point depend on the ore, liberation, pulp pH and the rest of the reagent scheme, so plants usually set them through bench tests and plant trials.
It ships as UN 3342, Xanthates, Class 4.2, packing group III. Keep it dry and away from acids, oxidizers and ignition sources: heat, acid and moisture speed decomposition and release carbon disulfide. Selective copper flotation
Collector for chalcopyrite and other readily floated copper sulfides where pyrite rejection matters. Its weaker collecting power helps keep iron sulfides out of the copper concentrate.
Lead-zinc circuits
Used for galena and for copper-activated sphalerite in lead-zinc plants. Often combined with a stronger xanthate or a dithiophosphate when slow-floating particles need more collecting power.
Cleaner and scavenger stages
Suited to cleaner flotation, where concentrate grade matters more than recovery. In scavenger stages it is usually paired with a longer-chain xanthate such as SIBX or PAX.
